Duck Duck Don't...

...count your ducks chickens before they hatch.  It recently occurred to me that I might be jinxing myself by posting duck counts at the beginning of each month.  Maybe announcing I have no job on the first day of the month is a self-fulfilling prophecy?  I'm not superstitious per say, though I occasionally read my horoscope (which I only believe when it says something I like) but I figure a bit of cosmic cautiousness can't hurt.*

From now on goals will be set on the first of the month and ducks will be counted at the end of the month.  With that said, my November Goals are:

1. Find a community service opportunity and volunteer.

2. Read at least four books.  I have gotten seriously off track with my 1,000 book challenge...like haven't-finished-a-book-since-August off track.

3. Limit myself to one non home-cooked meal per week...lattes don't count...obviously.

These goals seem realistic yet a bit more significant than October's goals.

*And I can put off cutting and pasting all those little duck pictures until the end of the month...WIN-WIN!

Duck Duck Goose - October

It has been an entire month since the September duck count and unfortunately very little has changed. So little that this post is almost an entire cut and paste job. I could get all woe is me right about now thinking about how another month of my life has passed me by....but I won't subject you to that...even though I kind of just did!

Here are the categories:

Healthy family and friends: Everyone is wonderful and with the early arrival of the Maddie Bear there is a new duckling to celebrate. Congrats to the happy parents!


Job: Still no duck...although unemployment has kicked in which helps me stay a bit more sane.


Place to live: The apartment is currently being kept clean and visitable if you want to stop by and check out the hole.


Significant Other: No duck.


Financial independence: Again for now. See job duck.



Miscellaneous:


Purpose in life: Current purpose is to figure out a purpose. Doesn't that sound quite philosophical?


Social Outings: Lots of ducks! I've been trying to curb my hermit ways and have had lots of friend dates lately. I'm practically like Jim Carrey in "Yes Man" except without the Persian Wife Finder.

Duck Duck Goose

So it’s September 1st which is going to kick off the monthly duck count.

Here are the categories:

Healthy family and friends: So far so good…and perhaps by October’s duck count there may be a new duckling!


Job: Ugh. No duck.


Place to live: For now until I cannot afford my rent anymore.


Significant Other: No duck. Seems like EVERYONE else in the world has a duck here.


Financial independence: Again for now. See job duck.



Miscellaneous:


Purpose in life: Who knows? Big purpose? Little purpose? Can’t give this a duck right now.

Day dreams: Lots of ducks! Having all this free time has given me lots of day dreaming time.


Wisdom: Is it narcissistic to give myself a duck for being smart? Are being smart and being wise different things? Hmmm…see this is why I’m giving myself a duck. Obviously for these deep thoughts!

BTW are ducks and geese the same/different? Are they cousins?

Hello Cyberspace...

Where to begin...I suppose with the name. Zero Ducks in a Row pretty much sums up my life right now. Up until this week I taught 4th grade until my principal decided that even though I tried my best I suck at teaching and thus no longer have a job.

So I am back to square one with any career plans and I am beginning to think that I will never make it as a teacher. That sounds like I am trying to do something spectacular like be a show girl or president but come on already...all I want to do is stand in front of kids and impart some wisdom upon them. Is that really too much to ask?

Currently I am harboring many anxieties about my future. I am on summer vacation but I have no future plans for any aspect of my life. This blog is an attempt to record and inspire(?) change in my life.

So here's to finding some ducks and forcing them to sit in a row.
