Six on Sunday

1.  I went to my first ever 3D movie today. S and I saw Beauty and the Beast and I got to relive my youth one song at a time. Although, I have to admit I TOTALLY forgot about Gaston! Watching a movie in 3D was crazy. I wanted to reach out and grab things, I flinched as things came at me, and I felt like I was in a snowstorm. Oh...I also looked awesome!

2.  Everyday Brother is going on a cruise to Mexico and I am JEALOUS! While he is soaking up the sun, I'll be spending 5 whole days at work/school.  Boo.

3.  Note to self: Don't leave gallons of water in the car during the winter. They will freeze, expand, explode, and leak EVERYWHERE when you try to thaw it out.

You know how there is usually a handle on a gallon of water? Yeah...that is where it exploded.

4.  Every January/February I contemplate moving somewhere warmer. I want to be outside. I want it not to be dark before 5 pm. But just when I think I can't take it anymore, the days begin to get longer, the snow melts and New England becomes amazing again.

5.  Currently, I'm watching the Drew Peterson story on Lifetime and I'm kind of afraid to go to sleep because I know I'm going to have crazy dreams.

6.  Saturday was smoothie day. Smoothie with a SANTA STRAW!

Six on Sunday

1.  Today is the NYC marathon.  You better believe that I'm sitting on my couch in my pj's watching people be rock stars.  (Some day I will be a rock star.) <--Believe it!

2.  D&O from D&O Get Married fame are awesome friends who lent me a laptop (while they try to revive my desktop) and taught me how to use an online backup system so I am good to go for blogging and book writing.

3.  I FINALLY sat down and began to outline the book I am going to attempt to write (more on this later).

4.  On Friday night I picked up a few things at a store (which I won't name lest you think me to be less classy than I am)* and there was a woman bundled from head to toe sitting next to her "Sharing is Caring" Salvation Army sign with a red bucket and a bell.  I was all "HOLD UP...it is early November, there are still leaves on the trees, hell...there are still GREEN leaves on the trees.  Caroling and bell ringing SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING YET!"

5.  It looks and feels like fall in New England again.  After a rainy, swampy, blizzardy October, November is (so far) shaping up to be bright and sunny and brisk.

6.  Keep your eyes peeled for a new Breadventure this week!

* Okay fine...it was Walmart. Go ahead and judge me.

  

Six On Sunday

1.  Today is Sunday but I don't have to go to school/work tomorrow so it's really like BONUS SATURDAY!

2.  I had to scrape FROST off my windshield on Thursday morning.  It was only 35 degrees when I left for school/work and yes I was still wearing flip flops.

3.  Which may have something to do with the cold I now have but I blame it completely on dribbly, sniffly second graders who chew on their pencils and sneeze on you. Welcome to my life.

4.  Despite the previously aforementioned frosty morning, most days have been swampy wet and/or warm for the last 1.5 months so the leaves in New England Massachusetts are nothing special yet.  Last year they were gorgeous and I had a lot of free time to look at them.

5.  Everyday Brother is home!  I get to hang out with him until he is sick of me and then he will leave again.  Too bad there is that whole school/work thing that will get in the way of our hanging out time.

6.  On today's agenda:  put on pants, ingest some cold medicine, make grilled pizza and apple crisp without getting anyone else sick.  My cold will NOT get in the way of bothering my brother.  My cold will NOT get in the way of bothering my brother.  My cold will NOT get in the way of bothering my brother.

   

Sixteen on Sunday*

Ugh...I've been so negligent of this blog for the entire summer!  I feel like I've done everything and nothing this summer and sadly, the end is nigh.  As a last hurrah, I am headed to the Midwest to explore and conquer new territory...and go to M's wedding.  I will be "off the grid" for an entire week (omg!) so I contemplated writing a bunch of posts that I could schedule to post automatically, but I haven't had the best of luck with that in the past.  And I've been lazy super busy packing for my adventures. 

So instead of the usual Six on Sunday, I thought I'd beef it up to Sixteen on Sunday to (hopefully) tide you over.

1.  Last weekend I went to Maine but didn't kayak or even out my tan.

2.  I did go on a boat ride and explored the lake for the first time.

3.  Everyday Mom and I went to the outlets in Freeport.  The stores on the main road are all in old town buildings.  Starbucks is in an old bank and Abercrombie and Fitch is in the old library.

4.  I tried to convince Everyday Mom to use her 20% off coupon to buy this at Coach.

5.  She didn't.

6.  I drove the four wheeler down to the lake all by myself.  Sure, I needed a small refresher course and yeah I forgot to let off the gas when I changed gears...but I made it.  File under: second gear is a little tricky.

7.  I saw OREO COWS!

8.  I also saw lakes and mountains.

9.  My parents were so excited about the free zucchini they got when buying blueberries.  Lots of blueberries = lots of giant zucchini.  Everyday Dad smuggled some home in my bag.

10.  Someday when I am a lady, I will learn how to walk in proper high heels making me even more awesome than I am now.  For now, I'll stumble through a wedding on 2.5 inch heels wishing I was wearing flats.  (Who am I kidding...I'll be the girl walking around in bare feet at the wedding.  Wait...is that rude?  Or just unclassy?  FYI: I painted my toenails party pink Back to the Fushia for the occasion.)

11. On Friday I stood in front of an ATM vestibule for an embarrassingly long time.  Who knew you had to insert your debit card UPSIDE DOWN to open the door?

12.  This weekend I got stuck behind an 18 wheeler full of ponies.  I was annoyed and happy at the same time.

13.  When my parents go up to Maine I go over to their house and do laundry while watching their movies channels.  #True story. 

14.  I watched How Do You Know and I will never get those two hours of my life back.

15. Because I am (surprisingly) all packed for my trip tomorrow, I will spend the night eating a Jello pudding cup and watching The Glee Project finale.  <---Don't judge me.

16.  I will be getting up at 4:30 am tomorrow to head to the airport to fly to Philly to fly to Detroit to drive to Kalamazoo with my lovelies...and I can't wait!

1.  I'm going to see Stephen today!

3.  He is my favorite (read: only) brother.

4.  He is in town for a wedding.

5.  He lives far away in Virginia.

6.  He rides roller coasters for a living.  <---He doesn't really but I don't really understand what he does so I imagine him going up and down and up and down all day.

 

Six on Sunday

1. Happy Yesterday Birthday to my lovely Molly! 

Thank you for FINALLY joining me at 25+4...I don't feel so old and alone now.  Ha!

2.  I was going to spend a wonderful weekend in the woods, living deliberately.  I was going to visit the beach...smell the salty air...swim...walk in the woods...you know, Maine stuff.  But my fallopian tubes revolted against me and I spent two days living deliberately on the couch instead.

3.  I have no idea how to spell deliberately.  I had to spell check...three times.

4. The town I grew up in has an annual 4th of July parade that is kind of a big deal.  So big of a deal that people put out chairs A WEEK BEFORE THE PARADE to secure their vantage spot.  Like I said...kind of a big deal.

5. I spent the evening on the common with a red head and her red headed spawn.  We saw a HUGE dog, a dog wearing a neon pink t-shirt, and a tiny dog with its own chair to sit on.

6.  We also saw a twinsies couple wearing matching khaki shorts, yellow polos and red baseball hats and some emo-ish teenagers with neon green skinny jeans.  #File under:  My town is the fashion capital of Massachusetts Middlesex County.

   

Six On Sunday: Father's Day Edition

Happy Father's Day to the man who:

1.  Instilled a love of making bread messes in the kitchen at an early age. 

2.  Taught me to jump start my car and trusted that I could do it.

3.  Always gives great advice:
Amy: How do I call the llamas to come over to the fence?
Dad:  Say, "llama llama llama."

4.  Helped me haul away a Christmas tree.

5.  Doesn't get mad when I beat him in the last hand of a game.

6.  Still rocks a mustache.

    

Six on Sunday

1.  My Netflix Instant Queue loves adjectives but dislikes commas and capitalization rules.

2.  My kitchen light fixture has three light bulbs in it...one of which has been out for over a month.  Thursday, I came home and turned on the light and all three bulbs were lit.  The only possible explanations are that my landlord stopped by unannounced to replace a light bulb, it magically re-lit, or I'm going crazy.  I'm going to assume that the bulb somehow wiggled itself back into working because my apartment is a disaster and I would be mortified if my landlord stopped by. (Note to self:  Get started on June goal #3.)  Also, if he came in without telling me that creeps me out.

3.  In my weekend travels I came across this:

Do people really have Christian parties?  Can I use this company for a Bat Mitzvah?  Did I have to Google how to spell Bat Mitzvah?  (Yes.)

4.  I traveled to a farm in NH to visit some cows this weekend.

5.  While I was there, I played paparazzi at D&O's wedding.  (Future career?)

The wedding was beautiful and it made me wonder if it's time to start taking applications for my future husband so I can be this in love some day.

6.  I'm kind of a rough sleeper. 

With all the excitement of the weekend, I've slept for maybe 7 hours in the last 2 days.  The funday part of Sunday will include sleeping as late as possible, taking at least two naps, and some puppy snuggling.

Six on Monday

Because mom begged...I bring you Six on Monday...it's almost like Sunday...just a little suckier.*

1.  This morning was crazysauce.  I snoozed (had to after only 3 hours of sleep) for 15 min. and left just enough time to stop at Dunks.  But first, I turned this:

And then I couldn't find my keys...ANYWHERE.  I checked my purse 3 times, my living room, my office, my kitchen, my bedroom, and my bathroom.  They were nowhere.  I wondered if I locked them in my car, but I was in my apartment so they had to be somewhere there as well.  I searched and searched and almost called the school to tell them I wasn't going to show up to sub because my keys were GONE.  But then I found them.  Guess where?

In the couch cushions....obviously.  By that time my Dunks window had been harshly closed and I had to play nice with the monsters for 6 hours without a coffee after 3 hours of sleep.  Ugh.

2.  But my day was still better than the guy who flipped his truck on my exit ramp this evening.

3.  And I was super productive today.  I did all sorts of errands and chores that I have been putting off forever and ever and ever.

4.  I've been super good about my eating green things goal.  Lots of veggies so far but still little variety (broccoli, zucchini, and lettuce.)

5.  I even found my favorite thing ever pasta that was green!

6.  I bought my plane tickets to visit all my lovelies this summer!  I've been working on something (hopefully) exciting to tell you about my trip.  Can you stand the suspense?

* Today a 5th grader told me that Monday was not Funday...according to him, only Sunday Funday exists.

    

Six On Sunday

1.  Saturday was a perfect day.  It was GORGEOUS out...75 and sunny.  My only regret is that I didn't wear flip flops.

2.  Saturday was also girl date day.  S and I went for pizza then saw Bridesmaids which was HILARIOUS!

3.  This week at the grocery store I bought this:

I've eaten squash many many times but my family usually gets the green, pumpkin shaped ones.  I have never prepared squash by myself before.  I'm going to try and prepare this without incident but I don't know where to start.  Cut it in half?  Peel it?  With a knife?  A veggie peeler?  Do I even own a veggie peeler?

4.  I also bought these at the grocery store. 

I've been on an Asian food (i.e. stir fry and wonton strips) kick lately and I add these on top of everything.  If you know me, you know I also eat them from straight from the bag like crackers.  Nom Nom.

5.  I've been working on several things from The List this month.  But you're going to have to wait and see what this turned into!

6.  In case you haven't seen it, the CDC (that's the Center for Disease Control) has issued an emergency response plan for the zombie apocalypse.  It's nice to know that should the zombie apocalypse occur, the CDC will have my back.

   

Six On Sunday

How is May half over already?  Last week kind of got away from me blogging-wise.  I had a lot of almost-posts which all ended up being not-quite posts.  Then, the longer I went without posting the harder it was to write something...anything.  And then Blogger broke for two days.  But here are six of the things I did, thought, saw, or loved this past week.

1.  I had an online chat date with M and we tried to figure out gchat...rather unsuccessfully.


So we gave up and had a wonderful chat on Skype instead.

Something was HILARIOUS!

2.  I wanted to make the perfect birthday cupcakes for S.  I went to the store, list in hand and filled my cart with all the goodies needed to make chocolate cupcakes with peanut butter filling/frosting.  When I got into the check out line I realized I didn't have my wallet.  Embarrassed, I asked if I could leave my cart there while I ran to my car to get it.  I ran out to my car and grabbed my wallet and got back in line.  My wallet was feeling super thin so I opened it and it was EMPTY.  You see...the weekend before when I went to O-town's Bachelorette Party I put my cash, cards, and license into my wristlet...which was safely at home...while I was at the store with an empty wallet. 

We made do with Hostess cupcakes instead.

3.  In my effort to walk 31 miles in May (even though I've temporarily stalled at 10) I realized I'm in dire need of new sneakers.  I have been cursed with the widest feet on the whole planet and tried on so many sneakers to no avail.

Seriously...I tried on a lot.

I ended up buying 3 pairs with the intention of trying them on again at home to decide if any of them were keepers.  And after my day long search...I found them!

4.  This whole rain thing is not conducive to my walk 31 miles in May plan.  I would much rather walk outside than on the treadmill but I do not like to get wet...at all (unless it involves swimming).

5.  I cooked a lot of meals this week but that didn't stop me from eating cereal out of a coffee mug.

6.  I cooked two different stir fry meals this week.  Stir fry #1 was shrimp, zucchini, noodles and sauce.  Stir fry #2 was chicken, summer squash (which I think is just yellow zucchini), broccoli, asparagus, noodles and sauce.  I got a bit over-confident in my pan flipping abilities and had quite the veggie over board situation.

But let's be frank...I absolutely scooped it right back into the pan and enjoyed it for dinner and lunch the next day.

 

Six On Sunday: Mother's Day Edition

1.  Thank you for teaching me valuable life lessons...like which day is the best to buy plane tickets and that paying my credit card bill is non-negotiable.

2.  Thank you for taking care of me...like the time I needed to get my wisdom teeth out.  You took me to the oral surgeon and didn't make fun of me while I was hopped up on pain killers.  Also, thank you for never filming me saying stupid things and putting it on YouTube.

3. Thank you for never letting me get a perm. I know you rocked one for most of the 80's but you convinced me to stick with the naturally curly-ish mess I was born with.

For the record, I (mostly) grew out of these curls.

4.  Thank you for letting me use your washer to do my laundry even though I am almost a grownup.

5.  Thank you for being too awesome to buy a mini van even though I thought they were cool and asked you to get one.  (Especially because you are already what I would call an "aggressive" driver and if you drove a mini van I fear you would become one of these ladies.)

6.  Thank you for putting up with my obnoxiousness...like when I decide it's time for a photo shoot even when you are feeling shy.

Six On Sunday

1.  It's May Day!  I don't really know what that means but I think it has something to do with twirling ribbon around a telephone pole.  Yes? 

2.  Last night was a 12 hour engagement/bachelorette extravaganza for the gorgeous O-town. (Full recap to come.)  We went here and got to wear these:

3.  We also got to partake in a glitter jar (which required a 3 am shower) because every available inch of skin looked like this:

I am sure that come Wednesday, I will still be picking glitter out of my hair.

4. Staying out until 3 am is not as easy as it used to be.  (Read:  Amy is getting old.)  I laid around in bed until 2 pm today!  I only got out of bed to catch up on reading blogs I missed over the weekend.  If I had a laptop or an iPad blog reading would totally have happened from my bed!

5.  I added a calendar to my home office* to keep track of all my nonsense because my old lady brain has been feeling forgetful.  If you want to have a play date let me know!  I'll pencil dry erase you in.

6.  Thanksgiving dinner on May Day is happening.  Be jealous.

* By home office I mean the place where I eat lunch while I blog stalk you!

Six On Sunday

1.  I spent yesterday working on #7 on The List...except it is someone else's quilt.  That still counts right? 

It was smooth sailing until I sewed the fabric to the machine...yes you read that right.  I can't really tell you what went wrong but it was all downhill from there.

2.  Today I multi-tasked.  I ate a chocolate cupcake while tutoring and reading Runner's World.

3.  I'm so excited to watch the Boston Marathon tomorrow!  Hopefully it will motivate me to actually start running.

4.  In an attempt to replicate my favorite meal from Bertucci's, I baked the "Cooking With Amy" version of a chicken and rosemary ham calzone.  Verdict:  Not quite the same but cheaper and healthier (probably).

5.  I received a lesson in inefficiency this week.
