3.5 > 3.1

Going to the gym is sooooo much easier when you rock the buddy system.  I have a tendency to stay in bed until...um...late.  But today I got up (I'm not going to say it was early because you would laugh but take whatever time you usually wake up and subtract 2 hours) and met K at the gym for Day 3 of #19 on The List

I did my 3.1 on the elliptical today because for some reason the treadmill kicked my ass way more than I thought it would.  When I paused to shed my sweatshirt, I didn't actually pause the machine...which turned out to be a bad idea because the thing reset on me.  Luckily I hadn't gotten too far.  So I started over and did my 3.1 in 38 min (wayyy faster than on the treadmill).  Overall, I did about 3.5 and I didn't feel like death afterwards.

Now I just need to learn how to balance my level of thirst with my water intake so I don't feel dehydrated or sloshy and close to puking.  Any advice?

  1. I suppose as a workout buddy I could have mentioned - that is why I chew gum, it helps me with the water/saliva/grossness issue. Give it a try ;)

  2. Go you! Maybe someday I'll get my lazy butt on a treadmill...

  3. I'm addicted to Jazzercise, beats the heck out of running! You can find the music they use for their classes though online, it's always good work-out stuff. I download for it the times I can't get to class.

As for water, replenish what you expel and you'll be good. Weigh yourself before your workout and weigh yourself immediately after. The difference is mostly water weight lost during the workout (you shouldn't see a measurable amount of "true weight loss" after each single workout). So say you're a pound and half light, that equals 20 ounces. Drink 20 ounces of water throughout your workout.

  4. Kiks - I think if I chew gum while I work out I'll choke and be that girl.

Summer - Pretty soon it will be baby walking season!

Jenna - That is very scientific! The first day I drank from the water fountain and today I just drained my Camelbak but then felt like I was going to throw up.

  5. I'm about to do my first 5K next month and I'm so scared - I've been running 10K's on the treadmill but I'm still not convinced that I can do a whole 5K at once outdoors. My focus isn't time - it's FINISHING. I think you can do anything with a realistic goal!
